SASSA Social Grants Re-application Process

The reapplication process is for those whose previous application for the social grants was unsuccessful or later suspended. Instead of filing an appeal, applicants can submit a fresh new application with updated documents or corrected information. 

Step 1: Identify Why Grant Was Suspended or Rejected: 

• Firstly, the applicant needs to check the reason for the grant application rejection or suspension. 
• Common reasons include income over threshold, failed identity verification, incomplete application and more. 

Step 2: Prepare Documents: 

• Based on the type of the social grant, prepare the needed documents. 
• To check out the full list of documents needed check out the official SASSA web page or go to the SASSA office and ask officials to provide a documents list. 

Step 3: Re-apply Online or Visit SASSA office:

• To apply again, the applicants can fill out an online application or they can also go to the SASSA office with their documents. 

Step 4: Verification and Review:

• The application will be reviewed and the information provided will be verified by SASSA. 
• The application review timeline is as per the type of the social grant.
• The application review will take a minimum 2 to 3 weeks. 
• Once the application decision is made the applicant will be notified. 

Step 5: Check Status:

• SASSA also provides an option to view out the application status. The applicants can provide the ID details and phone number to view out the status of an application. The application status usually shows approved, pending, declined or rejected. 

Step 6: Receive Grant:

• If approved then the applicants can start getting their payments. 
• In some of the social grants, applicants may also get back payments from the date of the original application or suspension. 

Important Note: If someone’s application is still rejected then they also can make an appeal within 3 months of being notified of rejection. This appeal should be made by an applicant  to the Minister of Social Development. The SASSA reapplication process is fully free of cost.
