Eligibility for R560 SASSA Child Support Grant

• The applicants should be primary caregivers. This means any person whether a parent, foster parent, grand parent or child above 16 heading a household can claim this benefit.
• If the caregiver is not a parent of that child then they must provide proof that they are only the primary caregiver and that proof can be an affidavit from police officials, an affidavit from a biological parent, letter from the school principal, or social worker report. 
• The caregiver must be a South African resident or citizen. 
• The caregiver should earn below Rand 52,800 per annual if they are single. 
• If they are married then their combined earnings should be Rand 1,05,600 per annum 
• The children should be younger than 18 years.
• The children should not get care in state institutions.
• The children should reside with the primary caregiver.
• The primary caregiver should not get any other assistance or payment to look after the children.
• Both children and the caregiver should reside in South Africa. 
• The applicants can’t receive this grant for over 06 children who are not their legally adopted or biological children.

The Rand 56p Child Support Grant by SASSA has been reliably paid to qualified caregivers since its increase in April 2025.
